Ms. Kelly Robinson, Executive Director of the AHRB , as the result of a meeting with the environmentalist, decided to participate to this in the month of Mangroves, conducting a Cleanup Day
, held at La Laguna del Dominicus.
Importantly, the end of the cleanup day, all present participated in an Environmental Education Lecture, given by youth trained and formed by FUNDEMAS (Maritime Studies Foundation), where they explained the great importance of protecting and caring our mangroves, to raise awareness of the values of our natural resources. All augur Sustainable Tourism, with the maintenance and care of our waters.
Participants had the opportunity to express their experiences and, in turn very lucrative offer suggestions for our environment, which will be considered in immediate projects.
Cleaning helps achieve the Blue Flag certification, as each beach must perform a minimum of five environmental education activities each year. Other requirements include conducting water quality testing every two weeks, the reef monitoring and the provision of public services such as lifeguards. Laguna Beach, or public beach of Dominicus, was the first certified Blue Flag beach in the Western Hemisphere.
