INDRHI relaunches the project of production restructuring Baigua

To supply demand for hotels in La Romana-Bayahibe

BREAKING NEWS: Bayahíbe.- The director of the National Hydraulic Resources Institute (INDRHI) announced the relaunch of Baigua production restructuring project, which by order of President Leonel Fernández is developed in this county with the aim that the irrigators producing plants and fruit with high quality standards for supply part of the demand for hotels located in the triangle hotel La Romana-Bayahibe, Bávaro, in the east of the country.

Engineer Frank Rodriguez made the announcement during a meeting with members of the Irrigation Association of San Rafael del Yuma, which was attended by Jesus de los Santos and Josefina Espaillat of the national office of theUnited States Agency for International Development (USAID), among others.

Addressing those present, the official said, We will make the best Baigua in agricultural development project in the country, and we’ll give you all the tools to make that possible.

He said that for the productive reconversion irrigators rely on the advice of INDRHI through technicians Agribusiness Management Center and Audiovisual-Library (CEGA-CABI) established in this county, including a food technology expert to teachto pack and maintain production.

He also recalled that Baigua was one of four sites selected by the agency for the implementation of a precision agriculture project, a mode of production based on geographic information systems and real-time weather, and the use of sensors located and remote, Which seek to increase production and productivity of crops, reducing the volumes of water and fertilizer used in each crop.

Engineer Rodriguez said the project will also be equipped with two greenhouses, in a first stage, which will be installed with support from USAID.
For his part, Jesus de los Santos said that USAID, through the Rural Economic Diversification Project, has the advantage of multiplying the number of greenhouses, and to offer along with technical assistance and accompaniment INDRHI to strengthen the capacities of irrigators so they can add value to their production.
